1.5 Seconds: Putting It Together

Now assemble the whole first moment of a play. Snap. The line's first step declares run or pass. The linebackers' keys fire — true or poisoned. The quarterback either executes the called run, carries out the scan's conclusion, or begins his progression. The safeties' rotation resolves the shell into the real coverage. All of this in the time it takes to read this sentence's first four words.

Your graduation exercise for this tier: open any Film Room play, set speed to quarter, and narrate the first 1.5 seconds aloud — line direction, key reads, shell resolution — before watching the rest. When your narration starts predicting outcomes, you're reading football instead of watching it. Everything in Tiers 3 through 6 is this skill, deepened.
